The Queensland Fencing Association Incorporated (QFA) is the governing body for the Olympic sport of Fencing in Queensland. As such, it organises state-level competitions, training camps and entries to national competitions. | QFA Squad Block 1 |
Block 1 of the QFA Squad Program will commence on Saturday 28 January. Teh Senior Weapon Squad runs on Saturdays from 12-2pm and Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm at Yeronga SHS. This year QFA will offer 18 sessions for the Senior Squad in each three month block - fencers can choose either to do the full block of eighteen sessions or a half block of nine sessions. The Junior Development Squad runs on Saturdays from 2-4pm. Fencers may also combine this with one or more of the Senior Weapon Squad sessions. Participants in the Squad program need to be Junior or Senior Members of QFA. Registration Forms for the Squads can be accessed by clicking on the title to this article. Forms can be brought to the first session or emailed to admin@qfa.org.au. Payment is due at or before the first session and can be made by direct transfer (details are on the form) or by cash/cheque at the first session.

| Coaching Opportunity in China |
QFA has been sent information about a coaching position in China. They are seeking qualified Australian coaches to work in a new club, initially for a twelve month contract starting from March 2012. Anyone who is interested should email admin@qfa.org.au so the details can be passed on.

| Level 1 Coaching Course |
QFA is again offering a Level 1 Coaching course at the beginning of 2012. QFA is planning on hosting Part One of this course on the weekend of 28-29 January at Yeronga - this is the same part of the course that was run at the end of 2011 and is intended for those who were unable to attend all or some of the course last year. However, the course will only run if there is sufficient interest, so please email admin@qfa.org.au to register your interest. The course will run from 9am to 4pm each day, and will be run by State Coaching Director Paul Crook. The cost of the course is $260 (which includes NCAS accreditaion fee). The second part of the course (for both groups who have completed the first half either in 2011 or 2012) will be run on the weekend of 3-4 March. It is highly recommended that candidates have completed the Level 1 General Principles Course before attending, and completion of this course is required before candidates can undertake the examination. | Vale Fencing Olympian Charles Stanmore |
The AFF is sad to advise the Australian Fencing community of the recent passing of Australian Olympian Maestro Charles Stanmore. He passed away on 25th January aged 87. Charles Stanmore represented Australia in four events in the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. He was a leading coach and influential member of NSWFA having established Sydney Fencing Club. His students included Craig Phillips, Bill Ronald, Graham Mills, Jeff Gray, Richard Emmerick, and Greg Bayley. A celebration of the life of Charles Stanmore will be held at 1pm on Friday 3 February at Lake Macquarie Memorial Park, Ryhope via Toronto on the NSW Central Coast. The AFF expresses its sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Charles Stanmore. |
