Queensland fencers pay their respects to Andrew Ius

 Black arm bands

Queensland fencers marked the passing of Andrew Ius, immediate past president of the Australian Fencing Federation and widely respected member of the community, at the open fencing tournament held in Brisbane today.

Andrew passed away on 25 July 2017 in Melbourne following an extended illness.

Andrew contributed more than 30 years of service to fencing Australia. He was a member of the former Australian Fencing Federation Executive (and the current Board) for 32 years from his election in 1985 until his retirement at the 2017 AGM.

His dedication to the sport was recognised by the award of Life Membership to the Australian Fencing Federation in May 2017. Visit the AFF website here to read about the full extent of Andrew's contribution.

Queensland fencers wore black armbands today to honour Andrew's life and to mourn his passing. He will be missed.
