Brisbane School Teams Competition

Brisbane School Teams Competition

The Brisbane School Team Fixtures runs on Saturday mornings at the Yeronga Park Fitness Centre during Term 2 each year. This competition provides students from schools across Brisbane and South East Queensland with the opportunity to compete in team-based fixtures. All participants in this competition are required to hold "School Fencer" membership of QFA as a minimum. Fencers are NOT required to be a member of a private club to compete in this competition.

In 2017 QFA introduced fixtures for fencers who attend schools that are not able to enter a full team but wish to compete in the competition. These participants are randomly selected onto composite teams and entered into the competition.

Schools teams are entered according to three categories:

  • Primary (Years 5 - 6)
  • Junior (Years 7- 9)
  • Senior (Years 10 -12)

The 2023 competition commences on Saturday, 6th May and will run on the following Saturdays

Uniform and Equipment Requirements

All fencers must be properly attired and equipped for fencing. Mandatory equipment requirements are:

  • A fencing jacket and breeches of at least 350N. (Jacket must cover the hips and fasten securely at the neck, no skin is to show between jacket & breeches)
  • An under-plastron (800N). This is the highest standard of resistance. Under-plastrons must carry a maker’s stamp certifying it is made of 800N material.
  • A fencing mask 350N in good condition with properly fitted backstrap (and neck strap for Leon Paul masks).
  • A fencing glove in good condition with no holes or tears in the fabric.
  • For foil and sabre, a lame jacket (a conductive jacket so hits can register on the scoreboard). Note: foil and sabre lame jackets are different.
  • A weapon (foil, sabre, epee) in good condition. At least one spare weapon is required in case of weapon failure.
  • A body wire that connects the weapon to the scoring apparatus. At least one spare body wire is required.
  • Fencing shoes or trainers.
  • A breastplate is mandatory for girls. For boys, a groin protector is strongly recommended.
  • Long fencing or football socks.

Fencers who present to the piste in without the correct equipment and uniforms or equipment or uniforms that do not meet the safety requirements of the sport, will NOT be allowed to fence.

Most schools provide fencing equipment for their student's use. Please check with the teacher in charge of fencing or your school coach.

A limited amount of hire equipment (weapons, body wires and foil lames) is available at the venue at a small cost on a first come, first served basis. Parents are encouraged to purchase their own fencing equipment.
