QFA Women in Fencing Epee Training Clinic

As part of its Development Program to increase participation options for female fencers, the Queensland Fencing Association is running a number of Training Clinics specifically for female school students.

The first of these clinics will focus on the development of Epee fencing and will run be hosted at Brisbane Girls Grammar School over five weeks. The first four sessions will run from 4:30 – 5:30pm, and will consist of warm-up, tactical and technical exercises, and supervised bouting. The clinic will culminate in an informal Squad Competition on 19 June.

The Epee Clinic will be conducted by Mr Paul Crook (Lvl 3 NCAS) who is the Australian High Performance Manager and Asssistant National Coach for Epee in Queensland. He will be assisted by Ms Alexandra Hughes and Ms Maddison Taylor, young female Epeeists who have represented Queensland and Australia in various competitions.

QFA Tour to Australian Cadet and U15 National Championships

Fencers wishing to participate in the QFA Tour to Sydney for the Cadet and U15 Championships in Sydney should return the forms below and make the Tour deposit by Saturday 24 May. Entry for the actual competition (including Queensland Team Levy) must be paid separately by all fencers by 20 June (regardless of whether they participate in the Tour or not) and can be completed online by following the link below:

Important Notice - Change of Date for U15 and U17 State Championships

Due to a conflict with the National Training Camp, QFA has decided to change the dates of the Queensland U15 and U17 State Championships for 2014. These events will now be held on Saturday 9 August (U15 State Championships) and Sunday 10 August (U17 State Championships).


QFA Squad Competition #1 (Saturday 29 March)

The QFA Squad Competitions are designed to give younger fencers more experience in competitions. The competition is for Under 15, Under 13 and Under 11 Fencers (born 1999 or later). The competition will be fenced in a modified format, with exact details (including separate divisions, etc.) decided once the number of registrations are known.

Each event will cost $25 and registrations can be made via QFA's online system (see the Registrations and Payments page for details). Registrations made after Wednesday 26 March will cost $30. Fencers must be Junior Members of QFA to compete (School Fencer Members can upgrade their membership via the link on the Memberships page if required)

The competition will be held at Yeronga SHS, Villa St Yeronga at the following times. (Fencers should arrive at least 20 minutes before the start time to warm up and get ready):

Epee - 9:30 am

Sabre - 1:00 pm

Foil - 2:00 pm

The competition will be fenced using full electric equipment (foil bibs not required), but some equipment will be available to borrow or hire if required. The full list of equipment required is below:

Jacket, Breeches, Fencing Glove and Long Socks (underplastron is recommended)

Breast Plate/Chest protector is recommended for all competitors and required for female competitors

2 working electric weapons

2 working body wires (and mask wire for Sabre)

Fencing Mask

Lame for Foil and Sabre
